About the city: Girona is a one of the biggest towns in Catalonia, enclosed by defensive walls and the Río Onyar. It is located at the north of the region and serves as the capital of the Girona Province, which includes the stunning Costa Brava. This ancient city is medieval and cosmopolitan at the same time, with a well preserved Old Town and full of hip bars and chic shops. The town has an attractive Jewish quarter, an impressive cathedral and several interesting museums. Girona’s cathedral, uphill from the river, can be seen from many points of the city. After walking through the old town you come to a wide stairway leading up to the cathedral. The cathedral has got a beautiful baroque façade and inside it has the widest Gothic nave in Europe. The cathedral is part of the town's historic and archaeological walk which runs along the old town, mostly atop of the city's ancient ramparts. The church of Sant Feliu is the second most important church in Girona, just a few steps away from the Cathedral. This church has a mix between Romanesque and Gothic styles and is dedicated to Saint Feliu, a Catalan saint and martyr. Near the cathedral, we find the Arabic Baths, an imitation of medieval Muslim baths. As a university centre, Girona combines past and vibrant present: art galleries, trendy cafés, and a lively nightlife. It is also a perfect base to explore the surrounding region. It sits just outside of the Pyrenees Mountains and is in close proximity to the beaches of the Costa Brava. It truly is a beautiful part of Catalonia that should be on everyone's itinerary.

About the city: It only takes a journey through the history of Manresa to realize that it is an industrial city. In the 14th century, with the arrival of the water channel of La Sequia, the city took advantage of the ensemble of colonial markets to specialize in the production of silk, sailboats and cotton strings. In the late 19th century, Manresa joined the world of vapors, with the construction of the factory Remei, Remedy, predecessor to the superb Factory Nova, owned by the entrepreneur Bertrand Serra. In this industrial area, consisting of a total of 23 buildings, up to 2,500 people worked there and it became a symbol of female labor in the textile sector. The arrival of electricity provided the birth of new industries, such as the flour industry, which left beautiful modernist buildings, such as the Farinera Albareda, which is still active, or the Harinera "La Florinda" current headquarters of the Local Manresa Police. On the other hand, the appearance of the industrial bourgeoisie favored the creation of small workshops, factories and other Modernist buildings in the main streets of the city. However, being a city in constant development, many of the buildings which once were the heart of industrial Manresa, today are being used to house different business such as the silk factory Balcells now houses the Municipal Conservatory of Music; the former slaughterhouse now is the University library or the Old Deposits, which formerly procured drinking water, and now it is the Technical Museum of Manresa.Other places of interest:- The Manresa Cathedral: it is the main monument of the city. It was designed by Berenguer de Montagut in 1325 and is a typical example of Catalan Gothic. The notable Gothic altarpieces of the interior and the modernist façade were designed by Alexandre Soler i March, advised by Antoni Gaudí.Address: Baixada de la Seu, s/nTel. +34 93 872 15 12Opening times:Monday to Friday from 9:30 to 13: 30h and 16 to 19: 45hSaturdays from 9:30 to 14h and from 16 to 20hSundays and holidays from 9:30 to 14h and from 17 to 20h- The Cave of St. Ignatius and the Jesuit route: In 1522 St. Ignatius did stay at Manresa for a whole year.
