Marrakech

About the city

Gateway to the desert and the south, Marrakech is overwhelming like no other imperial city of Morocco. Its reddish-pink streets and alleys are full of sounds, sights, smells and life. The mid-summer heat is enough to prostrate most tourists. The best times to explore Marrakech are early morning, early evening, and winter, during winter temperatures are mild, but fall significantly at night, due to the cold air from the High Atlas. The Djemaa El-Fna, Assembly of the Dead, is anything but what its name suggests. A hot and crowded market by day, the Djemaa really gets rolling at sunset when the entertainers invade. This chaotic outdoor circus offers a microcosms of Morocco at its most exotic. The huge audience clusters in tight circles around the diverse cast of performers. Almost every tour of Marrakech begins at the 12th century Koutoubia Mosque, with its magnificent minaret presiding over the Djemaa. The minaret, crowned by a lantern of three golden spheres, is the oldest and purest surviving example of the architecture of the Almohads. The city’s two most breathtaking monuments date from the 16th century. Feast your eyes and cool off at the ornate Ben Youssef Madrassa, the largest Qur’anic school in North Africa. Even more lavish are the dazzling Saadian Tombs, modelled upon the interior of the Alhambra in Granada. The view from the terrace at the Badi Palace, now in ruins, is majestic. Close by we find the 19th century Bahia Palace. It is an ornate and beautiful palace with restful fountained gardens. To escape from the relentless midday sun, wander in the lush Menara Gardens and lounge in the charming lakeside pavilion. Marrakech is noisy, busy, dusty and chaotic. It is a visual and sensory banquet of colour, diverse cultures, architecture and design. Marrakech delivers an exotic and exciting taste of Africa and the best part is that it is only a few hours away from Europe by plane.

Mumbai

About the city

Chaotic, cosmopolitan Mumbai, formerly Bombay, is India's commercial and cultural center and its most dynamic city. The city's colorful mix of cultures, ethnicities, religions and languages makes it the most cosmopolitan city in India. Bollywood or the Indian Hollywood is here in Mumbai and hundreds of films are made every year in Mumbai studios. Mumbai is a city of contrasts. The skyscrapers of its skyline, the Gothic and Art Déco architecture of its colonial past and the Indo-Saracenic buildings of the city’s more traditional side give it an eclectic vibe that makes the city quite unique. There is a lot to see in Mumbai, but the main sights are concentrated in South Mumbai. The main attractions to see in Mumbai are the Gateway of India on the seafront, where you can take a day trip to the famous Elephanta Caves, the Prince of Wales Museum, which houses a lot of artefacts worth seeing, the Jehangir Art Gallery, the National Gallery of Modern Art, the Banganga Tank, the Walkeshwar temples, the Hanging Gardens, the Parsi Towers of Silence, Mahatma Gandhi's residence, now converted into a museum, and the Bhau Daji Lad Museum. Exotic Mumbai is a fantastic and exciting destination and India's most culturally active, lively and happening city.

Salvador de Bahía

About the city

Salvador, located on the Todos os Santos Bay, is the capital of the state of Bahia, Brazil. Salvador was the first capital of Brazil, and the traces of its importance are visible in the city’s Historic Quarter. Salvador is a bustling, vibrant and beautiful colonial town with many attractions and a unique charm. Pelourinho, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is Salvador’s charming Old Town that offers a glimpse into Salvador’s early days. In this area you can explore the site of the former slave market and pillory, baroque-style churches and colonial architecture. Also from colonial times is the Lighthouse of Barra, one of about 15 forts dotting the city. Salvador is Brazil’s colourful and historic centre of Afro-Brazilian culture, African culture is a big part of this city and is evident in its food, music and religious traditions. There are numerous terreiros, temples of the widely practiced Candomblé religion of African origin, scattered throughout the city. Most terreiros will permit visitors to attend their ceremonies. The best of Salvador is in its daily life, walking on the beach, savouring its delicious food, admiring the sunset and enjoying its unique culture. Salvador embraces you and doesn't let you go, so come at your own risk.

Wellington

About the city

Wellington is the capital of New Zealand. Wellington is a compact city as it is nestled between the magnificent Wellington Harbour and surrounding green hills. Wellington is a culturally enriched city with a high emphasis on the arts and it is considered the cultural hub of New Zealand. The proximity to the Pacific Ocean and the stormy Cook Strait is the reason why Wellington is dubbed the Windy City. The town itself is quite compact with most things to see within easy reach. The most important attraction in Wellington is the beautifully refurbished Parliament Buildings, located in the historic suburb of Thorndon. The complex is made up of 3 architecturally distinctive buildings: the Edwardian neo-classical Parliament House, the Victorian Gothic Parliamentary Library and the unique 1970’s style Beehive building, considered the city’s main landmark. Nearby the Parliament Buildings, visitors will find lots of good shops, cafés, Te Papa Museum and Courtenay Place for entertainment. Not too far away are the Ferry terminals and the Caketin, Wellington Stadium. Providing landscapes full of beaches, mountains, old Victorian townhouses, good lookout points, trendy clubs, parliament buildings, music, art, and so much more, Wellington really is a pleasant and beautiful destination.
