Pantheon and Santa Maria Sopra Minerva Guided Tour in Rome

day 2 - Small Group Tour

Visit the best preserved temple of Ancient Rome and one of the city' most spectacular churches. The Pantheon was built in I century b.C. by emperor Octavian and was dedicated to all the pagan gods.

Today it is a Catholic church and contains the tombs of some  famous people of Italy: painter Raphael, King Victor Emmanuel II and queen Margherita from which the notorious pizza takes its name.

The Pantheon is still a masterpiece of architecture and model for many new buildings around the world including the Jefferson Memorial in Washington DC in Usa.

A local expert guide will show and explain every detail of it using multimedia tools and superb reconstructions. In addition you will explore the nearby Basilica of Santa Maria Sopra Minerva. It is the resting place of the Medici Popes, it was the center of the Roman Inquisition and contains important artworks by Michelangelo, Lippi and other great artists.

You will love this tour!

Barcelona

About the city

La Vanguardia is the name of one of the city’s newspaper, and the vanguard is exactly where Barcelonans are used to finding themselves, for they are residents of Spain’s most progressive city. Beautiful, sprawling Barcelona, filling a great basin ringed with hills on the western end of the Mediterranean, is the embodiment of Catalonia’s artistic genius and commercial inventiveness. Divided into 10 districts each with its own character, the Gothic Quarter is a splendid medieval quarter and the old part of town, which stretches from the seafront to La Rambla. It is here that you’ll find the city’s oldest buildings, narrow streets, churches and the cathedral, La Seu. It also has a good selection of bars, cafes and some quirky independent stores. La Rambla, the most famous street in the city, runs through the heart of the city and provides outdoor theatre on a grand scale. The famous Eixample holds many of Antoni Gaudi’s famous modernist buildings. By far the most famous and extravagant site in Barcelona is the Sagrada Familia. If he building is ever completed, it will lokk like a model in the crypt, in the meantime, don’t pass up the opportunity to climb or be lifted to the towers, and wander amid the bridges, steps and crannies of the façade. Barcelona is a great city for arts from opera to architecture, and the meeting point between Spain and the rest of Europe.

Madrid

About the city

Madrid has a tempo of its own: The dry air of the Castilian plain crackles with its cosmopolitan crowds. If the illuminated shop windows along the Gran Vía, and the unrelenting elegance of Paseo de la Castellana are overwhelming, retreat to Old Madrid. Its tangle of side streets south of Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol are what makes the real Madrid. Spend half a day in the Prado Museum, thaat sit to rest on the steps leading down to the lake in lush Retiro Park. The city begins to live it up as soon as the sun goes down. Madrid claims to boast the largest number of bars per capita of any European city. Madrid teems with cultural events all year round. After concert, play or film, you can choose among literally hundreds of tapas bars and an endless array of nightspots. Madrid successfylly combines its cosmopolitan sophistication with its most cherished local traditions, the result is fascinating to explore.
